I don’t know about you but our single socks are becoming an issue, LOL. I mean, where are all these socks getting off to? In the car, backyard, behind the washing machine, stuffed inside of some toy, buried in the dirt…. who knows! It’s out of control and I’m sick of putting them away only to get irritated later on that I still can’t find the other half. So, I’ve seen these cute baskets and plaques around the internet and decided to quickly make one for my family too!
SUPPLIES:
- Wood Plaque
- Cute Basket
- Cup Hooks
- Cricut
- Cricut Vinyl
- Cricut Transfer Tape
Create In Design Space
The first step is to login to Design Space and start designing your sock board. There are many different sayings out there for lost socks so pick your favorite. I did “until we meet again…” plus a little “socks” for the front of the basket. I used the font Thirsty Rough.
Let Your Cricut Work It’s Magic
I cut this decal using matte black vinyl.
Attach Cup Hooks
I used 7/8″ vinyl covered white cup hooks to hang the basket off the board. To find the right placement I simply held the basket up to the board, marked where they should go, and screwed them in. Super simple.
Weed The Designs
Weed, (aka. remove) all the excess iron-on material that isn’t a part of your design. Using the Cricut weeding tools makes the removal of intricate pieces super easy. Then trim each design down to size if needed.
Transfer Tape
Transfer tape is the BEST and if you’ve never used it, you must try it. Basically you transfer your new vinyl stickers from their base to a clear film so you can properly position them on their final resting place. Cut a piece of transfer tape just larger than your designs, peel and evenly smooth on top of the vinyl using the scraping tool.
Adhere The Designs
Finally, the fun part. Remove the white vinyl backer sheet leaving just the clear transfer tape and your design. Then place on top of the board and gently burnish with the scraping tool. Next, pull away the transfer tape to reveal your awesome personalized sign!
Cardstock
Next I cut a piece of thick white cardstock to fit the little label slot on the front of the basket. I marked where the visible opening was to make it easy to add the “socks” detail in the perfect place.
Socks
Next, add the “socks” decal to the cardstock using the same steps as before and slip the little card into place!
Add The Basket
Hang the basket from the hooks and your single sock collecting basket is ready to go!
Laundry For Days
Always, am I right? At least now this new basket sign, plus the other laundry sign I made, is slowly but surly helping to make doing the laundry just a tad bit better.
