How To Personalize “Hospital-Style” Mugs for Mama’s with Cricut

As I’m typing this, I’m preparing for Baby #3 to arrive any day or minute for that matter! All new moms, especially those planning to breastfeed, know how important staying hydrated is and I really wanted to make myself a personalized mug for the hospital. So I asked our resident hand-lettering goddess MaryKate to whip me up a few designs that you gals might like too. I’m Halloween obsessed and it’s literally right around the corner so I also had to make myself one for Halloween time, the joke is there will be no boos in that cup, only sparkling water if I’m feeling fancy. Stop by our craft file shop to pick up each exclusive SVG cut file for only $1.99. Stop by our Instagram REELS to see us make one of these cuties in real time!

Awesome Gifts

If you’re going to visit a new mama soon, whether in the hospital or not, these would make a terrific gift to bring along with your visit. Don’t forget to offer to swap or throw in some laundry, get her a snack, and start the dishwasher while you’re there, those tasks feel enormous to a new mama and she probably won’t ask you to do it but will be so grateful that you offered.

Create In Design Space

The first step is to login to Design Space and start designing your hospital mugs! Upload our exclusive Cricut cut file(s) by using the “upload” button on the left tool bar. Locate the file on your computer and select to add it to your canvas. Then drag, resize, and add personal touches like the colors of vinyl you’ll be cutting with. I cut these at 4″ wide. Prepare your mat and get ready to cut!

Weed The Designs

Weed, (aka. remove) all the excess iron-on material that isn’t a part of your design. Using the Cricut weeding tools makes the removal of intricate pieces super easy. Then trim each design down to size if needed.

Transfer Tape + Adhere

Transfer tape is the BEST and if you’ve never used it, you must try it. Basically you transfer your new vinyl stickers from their base to a clear film so you can properly position them on their final resting place. Cut a piece of transfer tape just larger than your designs, peel and evenly smooth on top of the vinyl using the scraping tool. Then peel to remove the white backer layer and add the decal to the hospital mug!
