DIY Felt Crayon Holder Clipboard For Kids

If you have a coloring-obsessed kiddo like me, then you probably have coloring implements in your car, purse, outside, and all over your house. But coloring on-the-go can be hard in certain situations, so I whipped up some felt crayon holders that attach to small clipboards so that we can color anywhere. I put one in my mama backpack so that I’ve got one when I need it. Crayons don’t go in my Jeep, but mini colored pencils and mini markers work in these too and can be tucked in the back of the seat easily. The no-sew technique I’m sharing below is super fast and great for any level of crafty-mama!

Pinking Shears

Cut the top edge of both rectangles with pinking shears, if you’d like.

Assemble With Hot Glue

I was able to fit 6 crayons across the front of the memo-size clipboards.

  • Start with the top piece of felt overlapping the bottom piece by about 3/4″
  • Glue the two piece of felt together along the side
  • Add a crayon for sizing and then glue the top layer down again
  • Keep adding more crayons. It looks like I’m almost gluing the crayons in, but I’m not, they are just resting in the “pocket” for sizing
  • Keep adding crayon after crayon until you’ve glued all 6 flaps down

Glue Gaps

There will be small gaps at the bottom of the felt where the crayons could fall out, carefully glue them closed.

Glue Onto The Clipboard

Wrap the felt crayon holder around the clipboard to glue it in place. Add a bit on the front and a lot on the flaps that stretch around the board. The last step it so add some paper for coloring!

Smile Hadley!

“No, mama, I do coloring.” ….
“Ok sweet love, ok, you don’t have to smile… do your coloring”, said the terrible mother forcing her child to take a photo.
