Balloons are probably the most classic party decor ever, but we’re taking balloon decor to the next level with this project. Learn how to create your own custom balloon sayings using your Cricut and how to turn them into giant balloon stickers! Just a few weeks ago Martha Stewart released her very own, stunning, Cricut® Explore Air™ 2 Special Edition Machine sold exclusively at Michaels, which of course is the most gorgeous shade of gold! If launching her new Cricut wasn’t enough, she’s also now selling the most fabulous line of party supplies and decor at Michaels called Celebrations, have you seen it? An entire aisle packed full of adorable party designs in the most fantastic color themes… all the balloons we’re using here are from her new line. So go grab some Martha balloons and whip out a few cute vinyl sayings to have the most extra balloons on the block!

New Premium Vinyl

Cricut has just released their new line of Premium Vinyl, which marks a terrific improvement in product quality and so I’m using it for this project today. It has a new carrier (or backer) sheet that lets the product lay-flat on your mat and releases from it easily. It was created using a “smooth release” technology to make weeding and project application even easier than before. There is a new removable adhesive and permanent adhesive formula; the removable stays in place yet can be removed for up to 2 years and the permanent is formulated to be water resistant for up to 5 years. So awesome and the new colors are gorgeous!

Create Your Balloon Saying

Open up Design Space to create your own custom balloon sayings! For the gold and pink balloons, I did: Mr, Mrs, and Love is in the Air. Perfect for a wedding! For the silver and white balloons, I did: Miss to Mrs, 68 days to go, and xo xo xo. Perfect for a bridal shower! Click on the links below to access my exact canvases and designs in Design Space:

Weed

Weed (aka. remove) all the excess vinyl from your balloon sticker sign.

Apply Transfer Tape

Apply transfer tape on top of each sticker sign. This step makes transferring the sticker onto your balloon or other item super easy.

Trim Down

Remove the sticker signs from the cutting mats and trim them close to the cut lines. It’s best to trim large designs down to work in smaller sections so you can be as gentle as possible with the balloon application.

Blow Up Your Balloons

Add To The Balloons

Gently. Gently. Gently add the sticker signs to each balloon. Remove the vinyl backer sheet, position the design properly against the balloon, smooth each letter to adhere to the balloon, then carefully peel back the clear transfer tape. Work slow and work gently. If you don’t, you’ll pop the balloon – I know because did it!

24 Hours Later

This is what a shrunken balloon looks like with the vinyl sticker the next day, it’s kinda cool looking. The sticker lifts as the balloon deflates. If you use latex balloons, they don’t have a long lifespan and so neither will your signs. But if you put these stickers on mylar balloons, that’s another story; they’ll last as long as your balloons do!

Custom Balloons For Every Event

Just because we’re sharing this idea with a wedding theme, doesn’t mean you can’t use this same technique for ANY special event where there will be balloons! From birthday parties to graduations and from baby showers to anniversaries… you can add any saying or picture to any balloon. Just like we added this giant nail polish bottle to a balloon years ago!
