On the heels of ST’s 5 Year Blog-iversary and our HUGE giveaway, I wanted to celebrate two of my favorite brands; Canon and Cricut in today’s DIY tutorial to thank them for being such amazing partners! Did you hear that 5 of our DIY brides will each be winning a Cricut Explore Air and a Canon MG7720… oh and SO much more! The contest ends on Wednesday April 27th – so visit this post to learn how you can enter to win. This project uses both the printer and the cutting machine, which not only makes the crafting process a dream, but it makes your final product look professional and not “crafty”. With our free Cricut Explore files you can type your vows, print them, and quickly cut them out to create your very own, incredibly special DIY Vow Notebooks. Which will look absolutely fabulous up at the alter and in pictures, but will make the most lovely keepsakes that you and your future children will cherish.

How To Use Our SVG File With Cricut Design Space

My designer and I created an awesome, free file for you to use for this project that has 3 parts; the folder, the vow card and the vow lettering. Make sure to download all three at the end of the post and save them to your computer. You’ll be uploading all three to Cricut Design Space and customizing the file from there to turn it into your perfect vow folder! Watch to learn how:

Print + Cut

I realize that the Print & Cut feature from Cricut might be a little intimidating at first, but as soon as you try it and realize how it works – it’s FABULOUS!

So here I’m printing and cutting the vow cards for each little notebook. You will have already personalized this file by adding text and cut out shapes in Design Space. Cricut automatically adds the black registration marks to your printable design and then scans them once you put the file into the machine – that’s how it knows exactly where to cut! It’s seriously amazing. If your vows are long and won’t fit on one card, make two or three.

Cut Each Vow Folder

One for the bride and one for the groom! No hard work here as the Cricut does everything for you. Super easy to personalize to match your event colors or even your favorite colors!

Here I’m using the regular mat with 12 x 12 cardstock. This design will fit on an 8.5 x 11 piece of cardstock but it will be cutting it close.

Adhesive Foils

The new adhesive foils really make these little notebooks shine! Here I’ve used: Stainless Silver, Stainless Gold, Stainless Copper and Stainless Teal. If your Mr-to-be doesn’t like the shine, you can always use regular, matte vinyl for his folder.

You’ll want to use your Strong Grip mat to properly hold the foil down while it’s cutting and make sure to set your material type to “Custom” and choose “Foil Adhesive Backed” to achieve the ideal cut.

Fold Your Folders

Following the score lines, fold your folder together. Using a bone folder or the Cricut tool pictured, really smooth each fold line as you go.

Adhere The Flaps

I’m using the Glue Dots Stitch Glue Squares to adhere the folder flaps to the backing – which makes the vow card pouch. They’re the perfect size for the side flaps!

If the top of your folder keeps flipping up, set a big book on top of it for a few days and it will behave, lol. The reason I say this is that two of the cardstocks I used wouldn’t lay down even after folding but the others did. So I popped them under a heavy book for a few days and it was all good.

Apply The Adhesive Foil

Normally I would say that with a vinyl or adhesive foil like this, you’d need to use transfer paper to easily and properly transfer the sticker design to it’s final destination. However since we’re applying the sticker to paper, sticky transfer paper will actually rip your vow folder when you try to remove it. So, carefully remove the excess foil, peel up the stickers and place them onto the notebook just like I did here.

Smooth The Design

The adhesive foil has a terrific stick, but you want to make sure it’s fully pressed onto the paper – so smooth it down using a bone folder or this Cricut tool pictured.

Just a little reminder, I’m not providing the “mr + mrs”, “his + hers” and etc. That is an element you will add yourself in Cricut Design Space. It’s easy and I show you how in the video above.

Print Or Write Your Vows

I’m the type A crafter who needs my work to be perfect, so I heavily rely on my printer to fulfill that need. But, if you’d rather hand write your vows, you can still cut these cards out using the Cricut, leaving them blank of course – to add your handwritten promises.

Something Blue

My own little vow card was one of my “something turquoise” items for my wedding day… maybe this darling vow notebook could be your something blue – or turquoise!

I personalized this one just for me… with teal foil (of course) and my initials!
