There is nothing more exciting to me than beanie season! It’s Carli from Hein and Dandy! Fall is here and that means sweaters, hats, jean jackets, so cozy! I can’t stop smiling at how CUTE this tutorial is. Grab your flannel and get these beanies on because it’s autumn! These matching pom beanies are adorable and can be customizable. The tutorial today will teach you how to add a pom to a beanie and add mama and babe in embroidery floss. Let’s go!
SUPPLIES:
Baby Beanie
Adult Beanie
Pom Poms
Embroidery Thread
Embroidery Hoop
Needle
Scissors
Write
Flip the beanie inside out and put the embroidery hoop around the fold. This way when you fold the beanie back to normal, the wording will be the correct way.
No need to get a special marker for embroidery, I just use a light washable maker. The key is for it to be just light enough that you can still see the outline. I decided to write mama and babe on my beanies in cursive. You can always get creative with this step! You could write your names or write in a different lettering. Make it your own or follow along with my technique.
Thread
Thread the needle and have equal amounts of thread on both sides and tie a knot. This way your wording will be thick enough to read.
Backstitch
We are going to use the backstitch technique for our wording today.
Put your needle through the back of the fabric through the front. Use small stitches to make a curved line. Every time bring your stitch back to the first stitch to create a line.
The great part about a fold over beanie is that the back of the embroidery will not bother you because it folds over! No need to cover it up when you are done, it won’t irritate your skin!
Pom Pom
With the beanie still inside out, bring a knotted thread through to the outside of the hat. The pom has a loop where you can thread it through(so easy!) Bring the thread through back to the other side and tie a knot!
Turn it back right side in and now you have a beautiful personalized beanie.
