What is your favorite wedding day memory?
Seeing all of our friends and family have such a fun time at a big party we planned! We had an amazing time dancing all night with our best friends, childhood friends, college buds, co-workers, family and family friends. Seeing everyone enjoy what we worked so hard to accomplish brought us great joy!
What did you DIY for your wedding?
Lots! Candles for wedding favors, centerpieces, flower arrangements, place cards/wine cork holders. For our wedding favors we bought little mason jars and made a husband her scent. Which included lavender essential oils and a cedar wood essential oil. We ordered a cute sticker for the top that had our initials and wedding date. Everyone loves a good candle!
For flower arrangements we got beautiful flowers from eastern market in Detroit. We had a BUNCH of lavender incorporated and it made the venue smell AMAZING! For our center pieces we used the flowers, lace and a TON of mason jars which we filled with dried lavender and candles. For our name placement card holders we had our friends and family drinks A LOT of wine! Every time they finished bottles through the months they would give us the corks and we would cut skits down the middle.
Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?
Save money where you can! Instead of paying for a huge cake buy a small cake for cutting and get sheet cake from a big box store for the rest. No one can tell the difference and most people don’t end up eating the cake anyway. Midnight snack: instead of going through our caterer we got dollar menu items from McDonald’s. We fed all our party guests at midnight with nuggets and burgers from McDonald’s for only 250 dollars and lemme tell you, they LOVED it!
Instead of paying for a party bus we shuttles our guests to and from the venue and hotel on a school bus! It ended up being some of our guests favorite memory. The party didn’t stop at the wedding but continued on the bus all the way back to the hotel! Don’t skimp out where it counts. Spend the money on a good DJ. It will really make our break the time your guests have at the wedding. Our DJ was AMAZING and kept the party going all night long! -Elyse, the Bride
