Invitations that Match Your Wedding Website

When I got engaged, I was repeatedly asked what my theme was. The first time I was asked this question, I panicked because I didn’t realize I needed a theme (spoiler alert: I didn’t actually need one). A wedding theme doesn’t have to be a strict, obvious cliche; it can be colors, a design, a symbol you love, a place, or even an overall style.

How to Pick a Wedding Theme

If the idea of picking a theme overwhelms you, start by browsing Zola’s coordinated wedding website and invitations. Pick a design that resonates with you, and then use it to get those creative juices flowing. Pull colors, shapes, images, or even an overall vibe from the coordinating website and invitation, then incorporate it throughout your entire wedding. Here are a few to get you started.

Dark and Romantic

Think midnight black, deep navy, gold, and contrasting florals. This theme goes well with tule, candles, metallic accents, and plenty of roses. Use it to complement a dramatic venue such as as heritage manor, a chandelier-lit ballroom, or a fancy, old hotel.

Greenery

Olive branches, eucalyptus wreaths, fiddle-leaf figs, and leafy vines are having a moment right now, so why not plan your big day around them? Even if you don’t have a garden wedding, you can still choose a theme that celebrates everything green. Add in some of your favourite flowers for more color or consider a monotone color scheme by sticking with various shades of green. Bonus: when it comes to floral design, greenery is often cheaper than florals!

Minimalist

Cut the clutter if you want to pull off a minimalist wedding. Crisp linens, a simple color palette, classic florals, and streamlined decor is all you need for this theme. It’s less about what’s currently on trend and more about design touches that will stand the test of time.

Zola is reinventing the wedding planning and registry experience for the nearly 2 million millennial couples that get married every year. Zola’s free suite of easy-to-use wedding planning tools include a five-star-rated wedding registry, free wedding websites, save the dates and invitations, a customizable checklist, easy-to-use guest-list manager, and more.
