Stunning New York Scandinavian Meets Industrial Styled Shoot

“As a New Yorker, finding a place for peace and serenity can be a challenge, that is why Randall’s Island, the site of this shoot is a magical place. In the middle of the East River, between Manhattan and Queens is a small island many New Yorkers only know because they pass it on their way to the airport. But this sleepy island is the perfect backdrop for a quiet industrial wedding shoot.

We shot on a cold day in February, against a grey winter sky, which was the perfect compliment to the industrial elements of the setting. Because the island is beautiful in it’s grit, I wanted to juxtapose femininity in the Theia lace gown and flowing Alexandra Grecco cape. The bride’s crimson lips popped against her dark mane and the crown enhanced Maureen, of Perfectly Polished Face’s, phenomenal work on hair and make-up. The show stopping bouquet, provided by La Vie Rosie, was overflowing with lovely rich reds, and delicate blooms. Our couple glowed against the winter sky and the sun even popped out to shower them as it set behind the skyline.

My vision was to set an intimate dinner overlooking the city. The table and cake were inspired by Scandinavian simplicity. Meghan created a stunning, simple confectionary creation, decorated with flowers and pomegranates. We brought in natural elements with wood placemats adorned with calligraphy by Meg Burrell, paired with the lush leafy garland, the pomegranates and the vintage silver coupes, the look really came together. The lights strung over the table added the finishing touch.

It’s easy to love the bustling city in the summer, but as a New Yorker knows, there is a beauty to every season in this town. I am grateful to Alhy Berry and Nick Collingwood for capturing the serenity and loveliness of winter in New York.” –Lauren Koster Creative
