All of it was amazing. It’s hard to pick just one memory. I loved getting ready with all of my girls and my Mom and Stepmom. My Stepbrother married us and our ceremony was absolutely amazing and personal. We wanted it to be fun and sweet. I was laughing or crying the whole time. Our American pit bull terrier, Lexie, was at the wedding but not an official part of it. At one point during the ceremony she ran up and just watched which was really cute. After the ceremony, we did private vows which was really special and so nice to have a few minutes with literally just the two of us.
What did you DIY for your wedding?
Almost everything! We got married on Tyler’s family property. Which is gorgeous. We wanted to keep things simple because it’s already such a special place. Our wedding arch was made by Tyler and his dad from Kiawe wood from a job site they were working at. I ordered the white orchard and ivy garlands and two close friends decorated it the morning of the wedding. I also made the bouquets with my Mom the day before the wedding. The ferns and greenery in the bouquets were collected from a family’s friends property. All of my bridesmaids helped out with the few flower arrangements that we used in the seating areas. We kept the tables simple because we had family style eating so we had a lot of gorgeous food platters. We had a long ivy garland on each of the tables and ferns on the napkins also collected by our friend. Also, my dad built the beer bar and Tyler and his dad built the bar. Tyler and I made all the signs {he made them I wrote them out} and all of our family and friends helped out with the decor. Lastly, my Stepmom made the Bridesmaid dresses, customized my dress {all of the beading on the back} and the flower girl dress.
Did you have a something old, new, borrowed and blue?
Unofficially, yes! I hadn’t really planned on it. My Something Old was a pair of emerald earrings from my Grandmother, as well as a silver cake cutter from my Grandmother on the other side. My Something New was a pair of monogrammed champagne flutes my Maid of Honor surprised us with at dinner. My Something Borrowed was jewelry from the woman I work for {I work as a personal assistant} and My Something Blue was our blue dog, Lexie!
Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?
The whole thing goes by so fast! I’m definitely a perfectionist so I think I stressed out more than I needed to about things being the way I wanted them to be. I was so happy with everything on the wedding day. It felt like a dream. I felt like all the weeks of stressing out prior to the day were unnecessary afterwards. I would also say doing things yourself doesn’t always save money. I wouldn’t suggest it unless you really want to do it. Pick and choose what your good at and what you need help with. -Olivia, the Bride
