DIY Wedding | Cody + Tori

“As a husband and wife Denver wedding photography pair, we do many a mountain wedding but, we could tell that Tori and Cody’s impeccable tastes were all over this Mountain Top wedding in Winter Park, Colorado. Tori is a graphic designer and it really showed! The way she combined polished details with rustic ones and soft pastels with bright, rich hues was simply inspired. Not to mention she did it all without a wedding planner! The couple’s unique variety of florals kept us in awe all evening long and their oxygen bar was the perfect thing for those not used to the thin air atop a mountain peak. Tori and Cody’s big day was a combination of elegant and romantic details with splashes of hip and fun components. Their canine ring bearer made all of our hearts melt! Cody and his guys sported dapper blue suits, while Tori’s gals stunned in a variety of soft shades. Their sophisticated, full-length gowns came with convertible sashes, allowing them to personalize their looks. Tori’s greenery crown complimented her contemporary lace gown with elegance. It may have rained just as the ceremony came to an end, but these two got a double rainbow for their happily ever after!” –Irving Photography

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

It is hard to chose just one! I loved so many things about our wedding day. If I had to chose one though I guess it would be my husband’s vows. He made me happy, he made me cry, and of course he made me laugh when he told everyone I make the Best Chicken Parm he’s ever had. Our ceremony was so wonderful, every bit of it, but his vows were definitely my favorite.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

I DIY’ed a lot for our wedding. A co-worker and I designed and printed our Save the Dates and Invitations. I assembled, tied, stuffed and licked every envelope for these, as well. I designed our sunglass wedding favors, our customized koozies, cocktail napkins, table card holders and our custom canvas welcome bags. I did most of our chalkboard signs and smaller decor items. I also designed my own wedding band. A friend that is a wood worker also created a huge wooden Colorado flag that we used as our guest book.

Its funny I showed up to Winter Park Resort with 6 Huge Bins of stuff for my day of coordinator… she still nailed it because it was all organized and labeled… its key to label!

Did you have a something old, new, borrowed and blue?

I didn’t actually. I did have a Something Blue and Something New {my dress and Garter}. I didn’t have anything old or borrowed. We had some plans for that and it ended up not working out, but that will happen the day of and you just have to go with it and say “eh, no one will die, so lets not worry about it!”

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

My advice would be to get good vendors and a day of coordinator. If you have these, you are golden. Ask a lot of questions and make sure they are all a good fit, especially your venue! If you are DIY’ing, make sure you stay organized and get stuff done early to avoid stress. Don’t just copy things off Pinterest, make it your own! Be yourself, don’t let other people {Mom}, things you see online, or other friends getting married around the same time affect you. Make a decision and stick to it, because it’s probably the one you want, don’t let others convince you otherwise. Lastly, spend money on what means most to you. Everyone told me that no one remembers the flowers… but the flowers and decor was one of the most important things to me, so I spent the most money on it. Guess what, everyone is still talking about our Flowers! -Tori, the bride
