Engagement | Sean + Samantha

“Photographing Samantha and Sean was such a pleasure. From the moment I arrived, I could tell these two absolutely light up when they are together! We had such a great time getting some really fun and romantic engagement shots! This adventurous couple was ready to take on any pose; and when I asked them to practice their dip-kiss before our shoot, they happily obliged. Their ability to dip-and-kiss was impressive, and made for some super romantic photographs! I had an amazing time with these two! Congratulations Samantha and Sean!” – Brit Jaye Photography

How did you find your photographer?

Who knew we were surrounded by photographers, from past coworkers, friends of friends and even family. You mention you need one and they all pop up out of the wood work. They were all good options for cost but I just couldn’t get past the feeling that we shouldn’t go with someone we knew. It was quite overwhelming. I started looking at blogs of other DIY brides to be, and found one that said she found her photographer on Craigslist. This woman mentioned that her photographer ended up being amazing and their wedding even got published. I really liked this idea but searching for a photographer on Craigslist was a little daunting. Soooo.. many to look at and nothing seemed to fit our budget or our taste. Feeling a little defeated I started looking at those friends of friends and coworkers and family again. As Sean and I poured over all the portfolios from them and the ones on Craigslist, and talked about what style we wanted, we still didn’t feel like we had found our match. One night on the couch, at a friends house we were dog sitting for, iPad in hand we saw Brit Jaye’s add on Craigslist. I had overlooked it because it didn’t have a price for the wedding photos just that if you booked by July 1st you got one hour for engagement photos for free. From all the other searches, no price listed usually meant out of our budget. We clicked on her add and went to her website and low and behold we had found it. The beautiful photos we had been looking for. We sent inquiry through her website and the next day she called us! She was warm and inviting on the phone and sounded like just what we had been looking for. When I finally got up the nerve to ask her price I jumped for joy knowing that we could afford her. Right then I set an appointment for our engagement photos. We are so pleased that we found her and her work is amazing. Of course we booked her for our wedding too and cannot wait. I feel just like the Bride from the blog, like I found Brit, a rising star, right before she hits it big. Lucky us.

What are you DIY-ing for your wedding?

Sean and I are very creative and love making things together. We started off by making props for our engagement photos. There was a burlap pendent banner, and a heart we sprayed with chalkboard paint. Right now I am working on making cards and a little gift boxes for my bridesmaids. I will be making our save the dates and invitations as well. My mom and I are making my wedding dress together. My mom will me crocheting the top part of the dress. As for the actual wedding we are going to make the centerpieces for the tables, the arbor, the boutonnieres and bouquets, signs and decorations. My sister is catering which will be such a big help. I think Sean is going to build the bar and cake table. We have a lot of ideas and so far it’s all coming together very nicely.

What are you looking forward to the most?

Seeing it all come together. As I walk down the aisle and see Sean down at the other end with all our friends and family. The whole venue will come together and it will be so beautiful and Sean and I will be standing there together vowing to be as happy as we are this day for the rest of our lives. – Samantha, the bride-to-be
