What is your favorite wedding day memory?

My favorite wedding memory would have to be when my husband and I finally sat down to eat after the ceremony reception entrance. It was the moment when I think I finally realized that we were married and the people that we love most were all in one room. There was a moment when we looked at each other and I knew then that we were both experiencing the same thoughts and feelings. It was so surreal and magical, it’s a moment that I will never forget.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

I would have to say that pretty much everything that was considered decor was DIY at my wedding. First off, I saw these mirror signs online that I loved. I initially looked up what it would cost to buy them, and wow! I knew then that I had to make these myself. I went to Home Goods and Target over some time and purchased mirrors that I found on sale. There is a matte gold-ish spray paint that you can buy at Michaels, and I taped paper down to the actually mirror portion and spray painted the frame of the mirror. I bought some window markers, and wrote on the mirrors for different things.

IKEA was a great way to find decor on a budget! I purchased really inexpensive picture frames and spray painted those with the gold spray paint. I used the same window markers, wrote numbers on the plastic meant to hold the picture in the frame and just like that I had table numbers! Our card holder was a green house for plants that you could purchase at IKEA too. I wanted to make sure that the things that I used for the wedding were things that I could decorate our home with in the future. I chose my favorite greens and flowers at a local wholesale flower shop. My wonderful family did the bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces the night before. The centerpiece holders were from Michaels and those were painted to the color that we wanted too!

Our place cards were probably my favorite detail! I ordered them blank off of a website that also does wedding invitations. I wanted the lettering to look like a type writer, so I bought stamps and a pad of ink from Michaels and it turned out to be my favorite part. I think that the easiest and most beautiful details at our wedding, were the photographs that I had printed {at your local drug store for less than a dollar} and framed! Those photos added a personal touch and an intimacy to the wedding decor.

Did you have a something old, new, borrowed and blue?

My mother gave me a beautiful hair piece for my Something New. My earrings were my favorite earrings that we’re my Something Old. I had a delicate necklace on under my dress that was my Something Blue and Borrowed from my family in Japan.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

While planning a wedding, brides encounter pressures and stressors from every direction. It’s very easy to loose your vision and get swept up in the stress of getting everything perfect. I think the best advice that I received and the advice that I now give to others is to not get swept away with the details. It was a process to figure out how to get what I wanted without going over budget, but it was worth it! If anything, I am really glad that I did it the way that I did. It made my wedding intimate and personal and everyone in my family loved the decor that I put together. I was on a strict budget for my wedding and while I originally planned on creating more details for my big day, what I had was more than enough. Remember that the most important thing is that you are marrying the love of your life! That is the only thing that matters at the end of the day! -Natsumi, the Bride
