real wedding | Derek + Emily

“Emily planned the wedding by drawing inspiration from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and incorporating tasteful, vintage decor. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding on a spring day in the suburbs of Houston, TX with gorgeous morning light and a crisp breeze. The bridesmaid dresses and floral arrangements included pastel colors that tied both themes together. Guests were served a phenomenal brunch that included custom omelets, fresh fruit, and homemade blueberry pancakes!” – Amy Watson Photography

“My favorite wedding day memory is at the end of the ceremony. We were introduced to our guests as “Mr. and Mrs. Broussard”, turned around, and “Linus and Lucy” from Charlie Brown began to play, courtesy of the string quartet we hired. As we turned around this is the first time I got to see all of the guests so it was exciting for me. I also loved when we got to eat. We had a brunch wedding, so the food consisted of eggs made to order, a pancake station, hashbrown casserole, a ham carving station, etc. The guests loved it!

ST_old_new_borrowed_blue

..My something old was my great-grandmother silver ring that I wore on my pinky finger. My something blue was a piece of lace from my mom’s wedding dress that we tied around my garter. Her wedding dress was actually blue!

ST_DIY_wedding_projects

..My mom did alot of DIY projects for my wedding. Our favors for the guests were little jars of strawberry freezer jam that my mom made and jarred and decorated all on her own. Everything for the centerpieces either came from my mom’s house or was found at garage sales. We designed how we wanted each table to look and had the florist add a few flowers to each table. My mom also made the ceremony programs which were fans and the menu and schedule for each guest…

..Don’t sweat the small stuff. I remember worrying about every detail of the centerpieces, music, etc. But when the big day arrives, none of those things matter! I started to realized this in the 2-3 weeks before the wedding and I began to feel so relieved. It feels so much better to just go with the flow. Eveything will happen the way it is supposed to.” Emily, the bride
