“I was so excited with the gorgeous sunset during Andrea and Jason’s engagement session, and they were just a blast. So sweet. They brought their two ”kiddies” along with them for their engagement session which definitely made it a lot more spontaneous and candid. One thing about doing their engagement session early with the nice weather, is now I have to wait ten months to shoot their wedding! Andrea and Jason, I am so excited to be a part of your wedding next August!!! – Taliah Leigh Photography

“I found Taliah Leigh Photography through a friend of mine who got married last year here in British Columbia. I’m fairly new to Vancouver, as we just moved from Toronto last May. Taliah took some of the most beautiful and artistic pictures or her wedding day even though it was pouring rain. When we met Taliah for coffee back in August, things just seemed to click. It was important for me to support small businesses and individual operators throughout this process. The wedding business can be tough to navigate through, but I have been fortunate to find some really amazing people and friends throughout this journey, Taliah being one of them. Lastly, when we asked Taliah how she felt about photographing our fur-babies (our two Labrador Retrievers, Bentley & Ella) she responded, “I love dogs!” – we were hooked!…

Are you DIY-ing anything for your wedding?

To be honest, I don’t think there is anything that I’m not! I’m a fairly artistic person, I paint, refinish furniture, collect antiques and so on. We wanted our wedding to be a small and personal affair, it’s important that it’s reflective of how we live our lives together and as unique individuals. I have done everything from the stationary to the simple hydrangea, babies breath, and rose centrepieces. As for the wedding favors my future mother-in-law and sister-in-law are assisting me in making homemade strawberry jam…

Of all your wedding plans, what are you looking forward to the most?

I’m really just looking forward to starting a new chapter in our lives. These past few year has brought about some big changes for us: moving out here, Jason finishing his PhD, me starting a new job etc. We are starting to figure out and settle in to how and what we want our lives to be together. It can be a challenging time of growth and an exhilarating experience in two people’s lives but we are trying our best to embrace it.

I’m also really looking forward to seeing my whole family together again. I grew up in a small town, Dundas, Ontario (just south west of Toronto) and my family will be flying in to Vancouver for our wedding. It was a hard decision to decide to have the wedding here in BC as we knew it would be hard for a number of our family members to make the journey out here. Luckily my whole family has been really supportive. I think my Dad is secretly most excited to be reunited with his furry grandchildren!

Bentley and Ella will be participating in our day which is really important to us. Luckily our venue, Hart House Restaurant (Burnaby, British Columbia), has been outstanding at accommodating this vision! We are fortunate that they are all avid dog lovers.” – Andrea, the bride
