For each and every real wedding that we share, it’s a requirement that we hear from
the bride… one question being; “What is your advice for brides currently in the planning process?”. Over the past 3 years we have heard some really awesome tips, so I’ve complied the most popular answers from well over 150 weddings to bring you this Top 10 List today -
the best wedding advice, straight from the mouth of real brides!

1. Make sure to take a deep breath every now and then – or do what you can to really take in each and every moment. Be present. Your day is going to fly by at rapid speed, so do your best to enjoy every bit of it – from getting ready to the grand exit!

2. Splurge on Photography! You won’t be sorry that you spent money on your dream photographer – that detail is truly going to be your best memento. It’s how your wedding day will be eternalized; imagine your grand kids looking at them one day!
***A Photography Shot list is a great thing to give your photographer; it’s a gentle reminder of the images that you absolutely want!

3. Do what makes you and your groom happy! It’s your wedding day and you get to do whatever you want! Don’t allow unimportant people speak into your plans. Communicate your vision to people that are close with you – who you trust to help you in your planning journey.

4. Get alterations. Make sure that you are 110% comfortable wearing your wedding dress. If you are, it will not only make your day amazing – but it will show on your face! The last thing you want is to be fussing with your dress; pulling it up, itching, or even feeling too snug!

5. Eat a nice sized breakfast and/or lunch and then try your best to actually eat at your reception – so many couples don’t get the chance! Have your venue pack you some extra food to go, just in case you get hungry later in the evening. You don’t want to end up starving on your wedding night.

6. DIY something you feel comfortable with. From one detail to the entire thing… handmade items will always mean more than something you purchase from the store. If you aren’t crafty, find a friend or family member who is and have them help you create something special for your day. Not only will you cherish the project itself – but also the time spent in creation!

7. If you can’t afford to hire a wedding coordinator for your entire planning process, hire them just for the “day-of”. That way you, your family and friends aren’t stuck with the task – and everyone will get to completely enjoy the day!

8. Make a budget and stick to it. There is no worse feeling than your wedding day being over and being over budget; or worse – having credit cards maxed for a day that is gone.

9. Enjoy the planning process! Make each planning outing special; ask a friend to go with you, make a lunch/dinner/drinks date out of it, take a photo of you out and about, or maybe even keep a little planning journal. Your only going to do this once in your life – so enjoy every second.

10. Don’t stress on the little things! Something will go wrong, and when it does – take it in stride. You are the only one who will know that your flowers weren’t the right shade of pink, your tables weren’t set up correctly, or that you ordered chocolate cake instead of strawberry… just go with the flow. Accept it and move on so that you can enjoy your day.

Curious about the design of the day? At the beginning of every NotWedding event process, their creative director and guru on all things graphically gorgeous Ashley McHugh creates an inspiration board and distributes it to all the participating vendors; this board is all the vendors have to go off of for the event! All the Cape Cod vendors had the pleasure of working with the pastel-laden Parisian Whites board below. These soft hues where a perfect complement to the sand, sky and sea of the northeastern coastline, making for a sweet, almost wintery feel from the cakes to the centerpieces. **Of course it was our fav because of the turquoise!!!

“It was like a movie” he said, “That part where everyone else goes blurry except that one girl. She was wearing a red dress. I’ll never forget that dress. I just kept thinking ‘This is the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen”…

Life began for Matthew on the dance floor of his junior prom. He saw Jessica dancing and after moving in with his killer dance moves, he went for it. He kissed her right there on the dance floor. He called her later that night, she picked up and said “What was THAT?!”. Their first official date was on the shore of Lake Michigan. After they had been seated Matthew excused himself to go the the restroom. Jessica waited patiently. He ran out to his car and grabbed a sign he had made. He went around the restaurant on the other side of the glass where the girl of his dreams was waiting and pressed up the sign against window. The sign read “Jessica, will you go out with me”. Jessica just sat there as the entire restaurant stared in disbelief. She didn’t move a single inch. Matthew ran back inside, and after what felt like years, she said yes. If you couldn’t tell, Matthew is a man who knows exactly what he wants. He knew that one day he would get down on one knee, present Jessica the ring he had saved for since the night of their junior prom, and ask her to be his forever. And it was nothing short of amazing.” – Emily Jane Photography

“I found Emily through a really good friend! I had been dying to meet Emily through Kendall (they have been friends for a really long time) and I thought Emily would be such a good person to work with! She was so great! Matt, my fiancé, was really nervous for this shoot! But Emily made it so easy to capture so many great moments! Along with asking what we like to do for fun and camping is a huge thing we do together and right away she suggested a camp fire and s’mores! So of course we went with it and made the best of a fall day…

ST_DIY_wedding

..I would have to say that I am doing a lot of DIY projects for the wedding! From flowers and centerpieces to even my own invites! I even plan on making my own veil! I am really having a lot of fun doing all these projects, and Matt and I both decided that a long engagement is what was best for us, so in the fall of 2015 is when we will tie the knot! Plenty of time to make crafts without having to worry about getting it done in six months. We are planning a more rustic wedding, when it comes to the decorations, I think less is more.

ST_looking_forward_to_a_wedding

..We are planning on getting married at the church that we both belong too which is in our hometown of Grand Rapids, and then having a reception at a TBD location. (Of course I’ve been looking and I have a one in mind, but it’s tentative). I am having cupcakes made along with a little cake for Matt and I by a family friend. I am also getting all kinds of help from my soon-to-be in laws which makes me so excited to become part of the family! The most exciting thing about planning all of this would have to be sharing our day with our friends and family, and having two families come together in love!” -Jessica, the bride-to-be
