What a fantastic week! I feel like I always say that – but I truly mean it! While on our romantic getaway this past weekend we met an adorable couple, David and Tiffany. We were relaxing around the fire pit at our hotel along with a few other guests when these two walked up and announced that they had just got engaged!!! Of course you can imagine my excitement – proposals are just my favorite!!!! Thrilled for them and their adorable story, the next day Mike took a few pictures in honor of their special trip… I just love, love.

Mr + Mrs Hainlen were married in the summer of 2011… and she wanted a reason to get back into their wedding gear. All I could think was ‘valentines is coming… what if we could do something for the blog!’ They were totally on board, I’m sure Jaymi was a little more excited than Will, and they were pretty much up for anything. Talking to them I was instantly inspired by Will’s dark grey suit and decided to pair it with deep reds. Loving the look of high fashion adds, I wanted to keep the overall ‘props’ simple – so we focused on flowers and lighting. Jaymi and I pinned images back and forth for about a week, getting super excited about the overall theme for the shoot – you can check out our board {here}. It ended up being a long but fantastic day and I couldn’t be more excited about the images that came from all our work! Make sure to stop by tomorrow for part two!

This shoot wouldn’t have been possible without the talents of our amazing florist Jacki, our superb make-up artist Abril, and Mike’s adorable assistant Emily. A huge thank you to Will and Jaymi, seriously terrific job modeling – you were absolute delights to work with! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This video is beyond adorable – it is definitely a must watch! I love everything… from Cassie’s smile to the amazing dip in the pool… I was seriously crying the first and second time I watched it! This wedding has so many fantastic DIY elements, my favorite being the mantle that they were married in front of – so romantic. Fantastic job by Adam Clark of Meet + Cute Films, thanks for sharing!

The cutest ‘first look‘ ever!

Any advice to those planning now?
My best advice to engaged couples is to document this exciting time in your lives! I kept a wedding journal where I wrote every detail (good and bad!) as it unfolded. Writing definitely helped me cope with the stressful parts of planning and recounting special memories like our engagement are already fun to reread. We took the journal on our honeymoon where we each recapped our favorite wedding memories and wrote about our travels. And when we got home we made a cute “When Harry Met Sally” kind of video where we discussed the whole wedding day…so fun! In terms of actual planning, one thing that helped us was sticking to three wedding priorities we set at the beginning of our engagement – beautiful venue, thoughtful ceremony and a festive reception.

Most memorable moment of your wedding day?
Our ceremony was painstakingly written with love by us and our officiant, so the ceremony in general was the absolute highlight. But if I had to pick one moment, it would be when we were announced as husband and wife at the end of the ceremony! Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in my Life” started playing and it was quite possibly the happiest moment in my life to date.

Hello Studios brought us today’s beautiful ‘day after’ session or ‘trash the dress’ session. What is that you might ask? Well… the day after your wedding, the week after or whenever you please – you get back into your wedding attire and have fun with your favorite photographer! Why would you do this? There are plenty of reasons why a day after shoot is a terrific idea: 1. The lighting wasn’t ideal on your wedding day. 2. Stress levels where high and you weren’t your best. 3. Time ran out for portraits 4. You want to put your dress on again! 5. You love taking photos with your husband/wife. 6. The most common reason, the bride wants more beautiful pictures of her and her man! This shoot is a perfect example of how fun a day after session can be… such a cute kiss in the waves! No bride would get into the ocean on her wedding day… but the day after – why not!!! Styled by the very talented Lindye Galloway, this adorable campfire themed shoot is just SO romantic. What a perfect way to end your special weekend.
