“MINT DESIGN, a company based out of California recently designed a fresh south of the border fiesta! We proudly partnered with Marcos and Lotta, a newly engaged couple from central California to design their engagement party. After 5 years of being together, Marcos proposed to Lotta during a surprise planned trip to Chicago! After a social media wildfire spread they knew a big celebration was next. Our vision and feel for the party was gathered by elements of the southern California lifestyle; street tacos, fusion drinks, bright colors and lots of swagger. There were lots of fun DIY elements that went into creating this fun fiesta! Streamers danced throughout the party as guests were greeted at the door with drink nametags, glitter heart stirrers and fun straws! Guests entertained themselves into the wee hours of the night with props at the custom photo booth wall, mixing up crowns and mustaches to lips and confetti! We created a gold heart piñata that served as a fun unique party prop! MINT DESIGN used inspiration from the couple and wowed guests with the little details, which were all created on a budget! Who doesn’t love that?” ~ Cheers from MINT DESIGN!

“Marcos and Lotta are a very fun and exciting couple that we were beyond thrilled to photograph. Their fiesta themed engagement party, designed by MINT DESIGN, was complete with street tacos, fusion drinks, and, of course, lots of glitter! We loved photographing all of the little details that MINT DESIGN dreamed up along with the fun and love between Marcos and Lotta and all of their family and friends! Cheers to the happy couple!” - Ashley dePencier Photography

I think it’s safe to say that everyone loves the mason jar. So I’ve been trying to come up with an easy (and darling!) way to incorporate them into table numbers and this is what I came up with! Hand painting each number onto old book pages and letting them shine through those coveted glass jars… add a flameless tea light and you’re golden!

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0001.jpgPin

SUPPLIES:

  • mason jars (new or old!)
  • old books that you can rip pages out of
  • craft paint
  • paint brush
  • paper trimmer or scissors

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0002.jpgPin

Rip pages out of old books… I tried to rip out pages with chapter numbers that would coordinate with each table number, but that’s optional. ***You don’t have to do this with old book pages – this can be done with ANY type of paper you would like!

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0003.jpgPin

Trim your pages down to fit perfectly inside your mason jars.

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0004.jpgPin

Then hand paint each table number onto each book page. You can trace it before hand if you need to. Some colors of paint might require two coats, but that will be up to you.

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0005.jpgPin

Paint all your table numbers….

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0006.jpgPin

Then carefully slip them into each mason jar… it’s that simple!

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0007.jpgPin

These table numbers will be the perfect addition to your rustic style wedding!

SomethingTurquoise_DIY_mason_jar_table_numbers_0008.jpgPin

These would look awesome with flameless tea-light candles inside of them!

“Facebook, when you really think about it, is fascinating for so many reasons, and I marvel at it sometimes. It has also brought millions of people together, has reunited love and has sealed-the-deal on love for many. In Taryn + Eddie’s story, Enterprise Car Rental brought them together {as friends}, and Facebook ‘sealed-the-deal’ for their love. I’ve got to mention that Taryn found ME on Facebook too…

ST-Petula-Pea-Photography-diy-wedding-Darlington-House_0001.jpgPin

..In ’08, Taryn + Eddie met at Enterprise Rental Car but were just ‘friends’. When she left, she never expected to see Eddie again. But a year-and-a-half later, when Eddie poked her {a Facebook, “wink” of a sort, or maybe just a “hi”} to get her attention, it must have worked. Wonderfully! Taryn and Eddie shared a long-distance friendship for 5 months until they mutually expressed that they both wanted something more. You can tell that they were placed on this earth to be each other’s soul mates. Five years later they ‘sealed-the-deal’ forever, at the gorgeous and historic Darlington House in La Jolla, California, adored by 100+ friends and family.” – Petula Pea Photography

“My first favorite wedding day memory was seeing Eddie be so emotional and for me to be the calm and soothing one. We had our first look before the ceremony and while I was expecting him to be a little emotional I wasn’t expecting tears. Usually he is very calm and collected and I need him to calm me down. During the whole ceremony he had tears running down his face and I kept wiping them away and telling him to breathe. It made me focus on him and not my own nerves. It is really a sweet memory…

ST_DIY_wedding_projects

..Yes! A lot of our details were DIY! My cousin Marget is a freelance graphic designer and she designed our Save the Dates, Invites, Rehearsal Dinner card, Response Cards, Table numbers and seating chart flags. We had them printed at a local print shop which was very inexpensive and then we used a Martha Stewart Punch on everything! My hand was sore for days from all the punching but they turned out so beautiful! Everyone asked where we got them.

I bought picture frames from the dollar store and painted them gold for the table numbers.

I also made the succulent centerpieces for the tables. I found plant sales around Encinitas, where I live, and got succulent cuttings from friends and bought jam jars at Smart and Final. I planted them months before the wedding so they would have time to grow and fill in their jars. A few days before the wedding we added moss to the top to give them a more romantic look. I also made candle holders with the same type of jam jars and moss.

When I was doing these projects it felt like a lot of work but in the end I’m glad I did it because I felt more attached and proud of the end product because I had worked so hard…

ST_old_new_borrowed_blue

..My old was my mom’s veil from her wedding. My new was my coral shoes and hair comb. My borrowed was my mom’s pearl ring and earrings, and my blue was my tiffany blue garter that my mom had made for me!

ST_advice_for_current_brides

..The best advice I got was from my co-worker Angela, so I’ll pass her advice along. ”Make sure that after you finish dinner you go to all the tables and say hello and thank you to everyone. Once that’s done you really don’t have anything else to worry about.” It was so true! Not only did I feel like I didn’t need to search everyone out to say hello but it really added a personal touch to our guests. They came to see us (a lot of them came from very far away) and it was nice that we took time to have a personal moment with all of them.” – Taryn, the bride

I am SO happy to finally be sharing this unbelievably gorgeous DIY wedding of David + Tiffany!!! You see, this wedding is very dear to my heart because me and the hubs met this darling couple the night they got engaged! Let me tell you the story… it was my birthday weekend and we were in Catalina celebrating, at this point we were at our favorite hotel – relaxing and drinking by the fire with other guests. We had already been told to keep it down by the management so clearly we were all having a good time… when Tiffany and David walked up. She said “I told him, I just have to go tell the fire pit people! …we just got engaged!!!!!” …and so of course we all screamed with joy for this complete stranger! Again, we got told to pipe down but how could we be quiet with such wonderful news! So the night went on and we got to know each other.. the next day, the hubs took a few shots of them to celebrate their weekend – and the rest is history. It was meant to be that this lovely couple met their wedding photographer, the night they got engaged! Tiffany and her ‘dream team’ did such a gorgeous job with all the DIY elements of the wedding… she’s a crafting rock star!
And how about that dress, breathtaking right?! Enjoy… xoxo, Jen

“I can’t imagine trying to narrow down just one favorite memory from what we reference as the BEST DAY EVER, however our theme was ‘love sweet love’ and oh boy was the love felt all day long!!! My groom and I found so much joy in knowing all of our closet friends and family members were all together celebrating us and very excited to be apart of such an epic day. The atmosphere was just lovely…

ST_DIY_wedding_projects

..Yes, yes, & yes again! :) My wonderful bridesmaids, family, and friends helped us every step of the way. I truly had a “Dream Team”, we crafted throughout the entire planning process. Which made this experience extra special and memorable!! The DIY projects started right from the beginning with sweet wooden boxes that I created for the lovely ladies in my bridal party which were filled with memorable photos and a love letter & homemade vintage postcards made for the groomsman created to let them know it would be an honor to have them apart of our big day! From the invites to the decor, from the favors to the flowers. Our “Dream Team” of family & friends did it all. Everything had a touch of DIY-love! It was epic. We wouldn’t have changed a thing…

ST_advice_for_current_brides

..To remember that it all goes SO fast. It truly does, especially one your dress is on. Slow down and as impossible as it may seem… relax. Enjoy your planing time, your family, your friends, and your handsome groom! The sweet gatherings and the support you have from the wonderful people who surround you and your fiancé. It is such a lovely season of life that is truly magical. David and myself find ourselves amazed looking back on it all.” – Tiffany, the bride

“This is a tough one!  There were so many beautiful memories from that day; from my very emotional father/daughter dance – having my dad scoop me up into his arms at the end of the dance, only to hand me over to my husband. That brought on both tears of joy and laughter. Or sitting up at the altar, having sweaty palms as my husband and I held hands and quietly whispered to each other “we did it, we’re married!”  The great thing about having a semi-small wedding is being surrounded by family and friends who truly exude love and happiness. It’s an out of this world feeling.

..No. I’d like to think I’m a crafty person, but I left all of the DIY’ing to the professionals. However, my Cousin/Matron of Honor did DIY a beautiful candy bar for us on our wedding day. The candy bar was a hit!

..I did. The two most symbolic pieces I had with me were my something old and borrowed. My something old was my Nonna’s (that’s grandma in Italian) rosary bracelet. My Nonna passed away months before my wedding day, so incorporating her rosary into my bouquet was important to me. My something borrowed was my parents lasso from their wedding day thirty-two years ago. Using the same lasso my parents used held a special place in both my heart and in my moms. It represented tradition, culture, and a bond that has kept them in love for so many years. That kind of love is seldom seen these days, and I admire that.

ST_advice_for_current_brides

..As stressful as wedding planning may be, try to enjoy the ride. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’ll be glad you did. And most importantly, something will go wrong the day of the wedding, no matter how big or small, so don’t sweat the little things. At the end of the day, you’re marrying your best friend, and that’s all that matters!” – Amy, the bride
