“The first time I met William + Valeria, she said that they aren’t a photogenic couple… yeah right?! Their DIY wedding was held at the Woods Clubhouse near their home. It was beautiful and hot summer day but their gorgeous indoor venue kept everyone cool and they happily partied all night long.” – Aga Jones Photography

“Our wedding day felt like a dream come true… so many wonderful moments it’s really hard to choose just one. However, if I have to choose one, my one favorite moment is walking down the aisle…. oh I was so nervous… I could not even look around to see everyone around me and then right before I got to the front – I looked up and saw my wonderful, handsome husband… we locked eyes… everything just felt right!

ST_DIY_wedding_projects

..Yes! The entire wedding was definitely an effort put forth by my husband and I. We were a team, when it came up to selecting the vendors to the linens on the table to the cake stand. I would say about 85% was done by the both of us. We created the bar top,  the vintage bath, my husband set up the ceremony and I took care of all the flowers that you see!

I absolutely love flowers and for my special day I wanted something airy and simple, so I chose babies breath for all the centerpieces and bridesmaids’ boutiques and I chose ivory roses for mine. I made all the boutiques, including my own, boutonnieres as well as the centerpieces. I also created a one of a kind rosary that I wrapped as an overlay on my bouquet.

The both of us created most of the wedding details, which made our special day feel just that much more special. We created our own monogram that we used as accents throughout everything. We even created and assembled our own save the date and wedding invitations – with the help of Paper Source in La Jolla, CA; which is just amazing DIY store, it has walls of walls of different envelopes, paper and liners and all come in unique designs and sizes!

For the ceremony, we went to a fabric store and bought burlap as our aisle runner and spray painted our monogram to make it feel one of a kind. We used vintage crates to place flowers around us for our ceremony. For our wedding guest book, I wanted something non-traditional, so chose Jenga blocks and guests were able to sign and write something special. We wanted our ceremony to be intimate and reflect our love for one another, having been together for 8 years, finally tying the knot was an unforgettable moment in time, and what better way to express our love than writing our own vowels, which just made that moment feel so special…

For the reception decorations, we refurbished a vintage bath tub, that the alcohol was kept cold in, and created our own bar top and used wine barrels that we found in my husbands dads backyard. We had signature drinks and vintage mason jars that had a chalkboard stickers on them so guests could write their name and take as a favor. My husband so incredible as he is, surprised me with a tiered cupcake stand that he made and engraved our monogram and this beautiful quote “How sweet is a kiss of loves beginning.” It was the perfect touch of a one of a kind piece and his commitment to making the wedding day so special!!!

ST_old_new_borrowed_blue

My something old was my tiara… the last time I wore it I was fifteen! My something new was my dress. My something blue was my garter that my maid of honor made for me.

ST_advice_for_current_brides

Well, coming from my husband he said the best part was planning everything and working as a team.

The process in itself is memorable, being a team and choosing every piece together really makes the day that much more special. I don’t think I could have done it by myself, I needed a partner and why not choose your life long partner. It was great because we did exactly what we wanted to do.” – Valeria, the bride

“MINT DESIGN, a company based out of California recently designed a fresh south of the border fiesta! We proudly partnered with Marcos and Lotta, a newly engaged couple from central California to design their engagement party. After 5 years of being together, Marcos proposed to Lotta during a surprise planned trip to Chicago! After a social media wildfire spread they knew a big celebration was next. Our vision and feel for the party was gathered by elements of the southern California lifestyle; street tacos, fusion drinks, bright colors and lots of swagger. There were lots of fun DIY elements that went into creating this fun fiesta! Streamers danced throughout the party as guests were greeted at the door with drink nametags, glitter heart stirrers and fun straws! Guests entertained themselves into the wee hours of the night with props at the custom photo booth wall, mixing up crowns and mustaches to lips and confetti! We created a gold heart piñata that served as a fun unique party prop! MINT DESIGN used inspiration from the couple and wowed guests with the little details, which were all created on a budget! Who doesn’t love that?” ~ Cheers from MINT DESIGN!

“Marcos and Lotta are a very fun and exciting couple that we were beyond thrilled to photograph. Their fiesta themed engagement party, designed by MINT DESIGN, was complete with street tacos, fusion drinks, and, of course, lots of glitter! We loved photographing all of the little details that MINT DESIGN dreamed up along with the fun and love between Marcos and Lotta and all of their family and friends! Cheers to the happy couple!” - Ashley dePencier Photography

“I always make the effort to get to know all my couples in the time leading up to their wedding – it is so important to have that personal connection with them. But in some instances, like Katie and Chris, there is already an established relationship. Katie worked with my wife sometime back and they were actually guests at OUR wedding! So of course I was excited when they contacted me about shooting their own. The ceremony was at the beautiful Assumption Catholic Church in downtown Chicago with the reception taking place at the inspiring Bridgeport Arts Center – which is a newer venue to the Chicago scene, and a spectacular one as well! After the ceremony, we drove around downtown Chicago a bit to take some pictures and the wedding gods were definitely on our side. There wasn’t much chance of rain that day, yet all of the sudden we were caught in a downpour (of which we all know is good luck on your wedding day!) – the location we were at had cover and we were able to keep shooting and stay dry! A big congrats to Katie and Chris!” – Ben Elsass Photography

ST_DIY_wedding_projects

..I have 2 amazing sisters who helped me do a few different DIY projects for our wedding. They took a vintage window and added our parents and grandparents wedding photos into each panel. It was a unique and meaningful piece that we now have hanging in our home. They also printed all of our table numbers onto vintage paper and framed them, and designed an antique suitcase to gather our cards. Our wedding was not only beautiful but was also one of a kind, which was exactly what we wanted…

..My something old was my grandmother’s satin from her wedding gown which was wrapped around my bouquet. Something new was my wedding dress and something borrowed was my mother’s wedding shoes, which I was able to wear on my wedding day as well. Something blue was my grandmother’s beautiful broach which was pinned on the front of my bouquet..

“Nestled between Lake Michigan on one side, and Lower Herring Lake on the other, The Watervale Inn truly is a gorgeous venue for a wedding. It is also a place that has been special to Alex’s side of the family for many years. I had always heard how gorgeous northern Michigan is, but I’d never been; it does not disappoint. The woods and lakes surrounding this quaint bed and breakfast, make for incredible photographic opportunities. Abby had the most beautiful bouquet I’ve ever seen, and all the details fit perfectly with the rustic vibe of Watervale. The tall trees, the sand dunes, the cottages; all of it so unique to Watervale, and in turn, helped make Abby & Alex’s day so special and unique. I was so thrilled to be a part of this one.” -Ben Elsass Photography

” It’s so difficult to choose, but my favorite part of the weekend was reading each other our vows. We wrote our own and kept them secret from each other – this was a big deal because we’re both pretty bad at keeping secrets! I’m known to be a cry baby but my husband was actually the one who became so emotional that he struggled to get through his vows. It was such a special moment and a great reminder of what a wedding is really about – celebrating your love in front of the most important people in your life…

ST_DIY_wedding_projects

..I actually didn’t DIY anything. I’m literally the opposite of a crafty person, but I did have a handmade vision so Etsy was definitely my best friend! So lots of handmade items – but not by me!

ST_advice_for_current_brides

..Don’t lose sight of what the day is about! I got caught up in the details a bit too much, trying to make sure everything was perfect. Ultimately, everything was beautiful and I’m glad I put the work in and found the vendors I did, but I definitely made myself a bit crazy. Just remember that what everyone (and you) will remember most about your wedding is the love, laughs and fun times.” – Abby, the bride

We are all about the new trend of ‘reception chair signs’… especially when they are DIY-ed! Today we are sharing the easy way to make AMAZING Mr & Mrs. chair signs with your favorite font. These will be the perfect touch for your special day…

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

SUPPLIES:

  • wood plaque of any style
  • a pencil
  • your choice of craft paint
  • paintbrush
  • furniture tacks
  • ribbon
  • print out of the words you’d like to use, sized for your plaque

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

To start, print out the words you would like to use (mr, mrs, bride, groom, his, hers, etc.) and size it for your choice of wooden plaque.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

Turn the print-out upside down and shade the entire font area with the side of your pencil.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

With the pencil side facing your plaque, carefully trace the entire word and all it’s details. This creates the perfect outline of your word on the plaque… it’s a graphite transfer!

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

Then carefully paint your word, keeping the printout close by for reference. *If you aren’t great with a paint brush, you can also do this step with a paint pen or Sharpie, but Sharpies can bleed a little on the wood.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

I painted the edge of my plaque for a finishing touch… let the paint dry for at least 4 hours before moving onto the next step.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

Now for the ribbon.. this is how you will hang your sign.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

Cut roughly 20″ of 1.5″ ribbon. Fold one end under and then push two furniture tacks through the ribbon and into wooden plaque; one on each side.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

Isn’t it lovely..? Such a beautiful sign for such a simple technique.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

CRAFTERS TIP // if you want to hang these signs off the corner of your chairs – tacking both ends of the ribbon right away is fine. If you want them to hang like ours, you will need to have someone tack one end of the ribbon at your venue over the chair back. Also, the exact length of your ribbon will differ due to the type of chair it will be placed on.

diy wedding invitations wedding paper divasPin

The great thing about this technique is that you can use any font you desire along with the paint color of your choice; meaning your custom sign will perfectly match your special event!
