DIY Wedding | Robert + Danielle

“Oh gracious, this wedding was a beauty! Danielle and Robert envisioned a quaint brunch celebration, surrounded by their dearest family and friends and filled to the brim with beautiful details and they sure pulled it off! Their Sunday morning affair began with getting ready at City Center hotel, where all the girls gathered and shared sweet laughs and a calm morning preparing for the big day. When we arrived at City Cottage, Robert was anxiously awaiting to see his bride. Their first look was so sweet and it was incredibly important that they included Brooklyn, Rob’s daughter in the first look as well. Aren’t they just the most adorable trio? The rest of the day was laden with the loveliest of details! The classic navy, blush and gold color palate coupled with the beautiful + charming venue, the gorgeous florals by Thorn Studios, Danielle’s incredible lace dress, the coffee bar, the amazing brunch buffet followed by Strange Donuts and some to-die-for couples portraits made this wedding one of our favorites of the year!” –Kairos Photography

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

I was a little freaked out about wedding day, because I am not the type of girl who likes to be the center of attention…at all. We had considered eloping several times because of this. However, we knew that it was really important to our families {and to ourselves} to create a day that would remember forever. This day was also more than just a wedding for us, it was the official beginning to becoming a family. Robert has a daughter from a previous marriage and although we had considered ourselves family for quite some time, this day would be something she could remember forever as the day that her Daddy and second Mommy got married.

We went the non-traditional route. We kept the wedding small {about 70 people}. We had 4 people in the wedding party and my brother was our officiant. We did a Sunday brunch with a {spiked} coffee bar and donuts. There was wine, beer, bloody marys and of course mimosas! Breakfast is our favorite meal, so why wouldn’t we have it at our wedding? Since we tried to create a wedding that would really reflect who we are, my favorite memory really isn’t a memory at all, but instead a feeling of pure happiness and love.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

I tried to do as little as possible to keep it stress free. However, I really love paper and fonts, so I designed our wedding programs to fit the theme of the wedding. We had a Sunday brunch wedding, so our programs looked like newspapers complete with a crossword {clues were about our story, favorites, etc..} and a sudoku for guests to complete while they were waiting. I also made our donut table signs to match the wedding programs. We did our own music as well. Robert and I carefully selected and created three separate playlists for the for our ceremony, cocktail hour and brunch!

To display our place cards, I found really neat trays and put some coffee beans in them to go with our brunch/coffee theme. My Mother-in-Law made the signage for cards that was displayed on the gift table. For our guest book, we created our ours on Shutterfly. It was a picture album of our favorite memories together and guests could sign and leave a message on any page. Mainly, we had a vision of a classy Sunday brunch so we put personal touches where we could, bought a lot of little things from Etsy, and crossed my fingers that it would all come together!

Did you have a something old, new, borrowed and blue?

My most meaningful item was my something old. My Mother gave me a wedding present that I will cherish forever. It was a simple gold necklace with her diamond from the original engagement ring that my Father had given her over 40 years ago.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Stay true to yourself! It’s really easy to get caught up in the details of wedding planning and doing it all since this is your one shot. However, reminding yourself what this day is all about can help steer you in the right direction. -Danielle, the bride
