DIY Wedding | Steve + Kayla

“From the moment we stepped in the door, we knew this was going to be a special day. The stunning bride was a-glow all morning. All of the little details caught our attention, like the card she picked for Steve and the small book she wrote her vows in. Just perfect! Kayla and Steve opted for a “first look” where they didn’t see each other, but still got to hold hands and share a moment just the two of them. The ceremony was under a flower-filled arbor and really fit their personalities, with a reading from a children’s book about dinosaurs falling in love and the bride taking the opportunity to snap a photo of her guests with her phone! Kayla and Steve’s wedding was so filled with joy. We can’t keep the smiles off our faces as we share their photos, their happiness is so contagious. Congrats, Mr. + Mrs. Vettori!” – Amanda MacDonald Photography

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

I didn’t want to do a first look. I really wanted the first moment Steve saw me as his Bride, to be walking down the aisle. Instead, we opted to do a non-first look by standing on different sides of a door so we could hold hands and take pictures “together”, but not see each other. We exchanged letters to each other and it was amazing hearing his voice and touching his hand, but not seeing him just made the moment so special and so exciting.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

Oh man, it would be easier to tell you what I didn’t DIY! I had the summer off leading up to the wedding to do all of the projects and make everything with the personal touches that I wanted. I made the programs {I printed them and hand painted each one!}, the menus, the card holder box {I sliced a long hole in the top of a shadow box to slip the cards in and used wrapping paper for the background inside it}, the bar signs, guest book signs, table numbers, I designed the escort cards and searched tons of places to find and put together all of the bud vases for the center pieces. For certain things, like the magnet animal escort card holders, I worked with an Etsy shop to create the look I wanted.

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

For my something old, borrowed and blue, I wore my Grandmother’s garter that featured a blue ribbon. My something new was my bridal underwear {blushing!} that my aunt bought me for the day.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Try not to stress over the little things! I know it’s easier said than done, but things are bound to go wrong with so much to plan; you just have to roll with it and remember why you are doing all of this in the first place. -Kayla, the bride
