Holiday Styles + Gift Ideas | Tips from Dress for the Wedding

Happy Holidays! It’s Sukey from Dress for the Wedding. I’m back with another style post, focusing on making your looks for end-of-year holiday celebrations as festive as can be! I have style ideas for winter galas and New Year’s Eve, along with some gift ideas, and some accessories to infuse your current wardrobe with a little holiday spirit!

New Year’s Eve Look

I know I’m getting ahead of myself, but I love planning out what to wear for New Year’s Eve a little early. If I don’t, the end of the year always sneaks up on me, because the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve always flies by. I think a sequin dress is the perfect staple for any celebration, and this little modern number is a great price point, and has a flattering wrap style. It sparkles so much on its own, so you’ll only need dainty accessories and some fun sheer mesh high heel booties, and you’re ready to ring in 2016!

Holiday Gala

This time of year is full of formal events, and it’s the season for a red dress! While head-to-toe red might be a little much as wedding guest attire, it’s the perfect statement for a special evening out. If you’re heading to a military ball or winter gala, this dress is a red-hot standout!

Everyday Holiday!

Even if you’re not going out for New Year’s Eve or to a winter formal, it’s still fun to infuse your day-to-day outfits with a little holiday spirit. Your current clothes can get a little more celebratory just from accessories.

Add a satin clutch or statement earrings to any stand-by dress and it instantly looks a little more festive. As Jen mentioned in her holiday hair post, there’s no better way to have a special holiday look than putting in a few festive hairpins like these (#4) Or don that silver sequin jacket (#7) over anything from jeans to a skirt and tank for an instant party look!

Perhaps my one of my favorite pieces here is that oversized bow belt (#6) – it instantly adds whimsy and wraps up whatever you wear like a little present! It’s a great way to bring together a simple skirt and top or cinch in a dress. For a little winter flair for your feet, those cute plaid heels go with everything! I’d wear them with jeans and your favorite fluffy sweater for just a little tartan polish. And a little holiday color in your nails is an easiest way to get in the spirit. Try a little glitter by way of this ‘Sequin’ color, or DIY your own nail polish!

Gifts to Give!

Now if you’re stuck for gifts to give — especially gifts for the newly engaged couple or as a hostess gift — these personalized pretties will be a great choice! These all double as great winter wedding or engagement gifts! I love the idea of an ornament to commemorate a first holiday season together, or the ‘Happily Ever After’ pillow to add a little romantic phrase to holiday decor. Of course, when it comes to personalized gifts, the DIY gift tutorials on Something Turquoise are the best ideas yet! If you’d rather have something handmade for one of these keepsakes, check out all the DIY ideas for holiday gifts, and this amazing Etsy gift guide!
