DIY Fringe Christmas Tree Gift Wrap

It’s day number three of our “DIY Gift Wrap Week” and I’ve got a simple trick for turning plain, cheap gift bags or boxes into super festive packages! This gift wrap idea was inspired by this giant modern fringe Christmas tree that Martha Stewart shared last year, such a great idea for a small space. I used my favorite Martha fringe scissors to slice up a few tiny pieces of tissue paper and in just minutes a boring bag is made fabulous. Finding this post beyond the holidays? Don’t worry, fringe is an adorable way to wrap and embellish any type of gift! Don’t forget to share your versions of this project with us using the hashtag #somethingturquoisediy on Instagram and Twitter! Happy Crafting!

Cut Your Fringe

Start by cutting 2″ strips of tissue paper, then use the fringe scissors to create the fringe – leaving about 1/3″ strip of uncut tissue at the top. Here I folded my tissue in half to save time cutting – but you don’t have to.

Tree Topper Fringe

If you’d like to make a “tree topper”, cut a tiny bit of fringe in a separate color to fit.

Tree Trunk

Cut out a small rectangle for your tree trunk and glue it onto your bag.

Assemble Your Fringe Tree

Add 4-5 layers of fringe to create your Christmas tree shape. Trim and glue as you go! Only glue the top uncut portion of the tissue to your bag; if you glue your fringe down – it won’t move.
