Steal This Style | Black Wedding Gown

Hi friends, it’s Lauren from I Love Love Events back to share another Steal This Style post. A few months back I showed you how to recreate one of bridal’s hottest trends, separates, and being that it’s Halloween week, I thought it would be the perfect time to present another bridal-wear alternative, the black gown.

Often times this look is presented in a moody, goth-styled shoot, but there are other many many other options. I love that the inspiration below presents the gamut of ways brides have braved the black gown. The first photo below feels like a southern belle, there’s the boho lace look in the upper right, rock-and-roll in the bottom left and even a classic version in the bottom right. It’s amazing how this non-traditional look can adapt to just about any wedding style.

My favorite look from the inspiration above might be the most Halloweeny, but it is also impossibly cool. Not only is the color non-traditional, but the head to toe look is totally unique. The bride dons a custom jumpsuit, but I’ve recreated the look with a deep-v neck sweater and a sheer maxi skirt, plus beautiful statement earrings and the richest shade of red lipstick. She is taking a risk with her look and doing so – she totally nails it! Here’s how you can recreate this ensemble.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING A BLACK GOWN:

  • One big advantage to choosing a non-white gown is that you can save big bucks buying a beautiful designer dress as opposed to a higher-mark up bridal gown
  • If you find the perfect gown in white, ask, often times designers can and will make the dress in an alternative color
  • Remember, black doesn’t have to mean more serious, it can still be very playful

Remember, black is a happy colour darling!
