DIY Wedding | Wes + Lindsey

Lindsey + Wes were married on the perfect southern summer day in Cleveland, North Carolina. We battled a sprinkle of rain earlier in the day but then the clouds parted and they were blessed with sunshine and cooler temperatures. The couple chose to incorporate a holy communion ceremony which they served to one another during their nuptials; it was a truly touching and beautiful experience. Guests played fun lawn games such as corn hole and ring toss (crafted by the bride) during cocktail hour. Their wedding was full of feminine, handmade details. The design process began to take shape once the soft and delicate invitations were selected. The silhouette designs were pulled from the invitation suite to create paper napkin rings at each place setting. They were also part of a trio of paper cone patterns used to hold the confetti for the newlywed’s exit. Lindsey the bride revisited her southern roots by canning her tasty strawberry jam as a treat for each guest. We also displayed enlarged silhouettes of the bride and groom on a moss wall bordered by hand crafted tissue paper flowers pulling together all aspects of their overall design. These same flowers were arranged on a paper garland surrounding the reception room. By the end of the night it was pouring outside halting our confetti exit. All of the remaining guests decided to take it outside anyway and dance in the rain making for some magical images!

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

Wow, this was so hard to choose! My favorite wedding day memory is probably my first look with my Dad. Since my mother passed away when I was younger, this was such a special moment for me. We got the opportunity to spend a few minutes alone to relish in the importance of the day. I’ll never forget the look on his face when he turned around and saw me for the first time!

What did you DIY for your wedding?

I canned homemade strawberry jam for our wedding favors! I got the opportunity to use fresh strawberries from a local strawberry farm and made jam from scratch. This was a huge project, but turned out so cute! I loved being able to give my guests something homemade and personal. We made a few other things as well, including our own giant Jenga set and ring toss game for our guests to enjoy through the evening.

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

My something old and borrowed was a ring that my Grandfather gave my Grandmother 20 years ago. They’ve been married for over 50 years, I felt so honored to be able to wear this on our special day. My something new was my gown and a gorgeous hair clip that my dad (believe it or not!) picked out for me. And lastly, my something blue was my toenails!

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Relax!! The planning process can be so stressful, but remember, the day is about marrying your best friend, not about whether or not the flowers are in the right spot or if a bridesmaid brought the wrong shoes! It will all work out, and at the end of the day, you’ll still be Mr & Mrs! – Lindsey, the bride
