DIY | Address Book – Guest Book

One of my absolute favorite wedding details to get creative with is the guest book. You only have to make one, so it’s not a huge task and all your guests get to interact with it – which means it’s a small detail that will make a large impact. I’ve shared many ideas on creating unique ways to commemorate all the guests that attended your wedding, but I’m totally crazy about this one. I’m BIG into sending cards and snail mail of all kinds, so having the correct addresses and info for all of my most favorite people is very important to me. If that sounds like you then you might want to consider creating this awesome Address Book – Guest Book for your wedding! Since gathering this type of information can be daunting, why not take advantage of all your favorites being in one place and let them do the work for you. Also a great idea for a bridal shower gift or guest book!

Start by painting (or staining) your wooden box.

I used MSC Metallic Gold, Summer Linen and Caribbean Blue for this project. I did two coats of each paint color.

Address Cards:

While your box is drying; download, print and cut your address cards. My free design downloads are available at the end of the post. Simply print onto 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock and trim on the lines provided.

They are simple and chic; perfect for any style event. Both designs have been specifically sized to use with this 6″ x 4″ recipe card box from Michaels.

Alphabet Dividers:

There are two options for this step:

  1. Download our pattern design below. Print onto regular 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock and cut out. Simply trace those designs onto your colored cardstock and cut them out; you’ll need 12. *There are only two because you just flip the first design.
  2. Let your Cricut Explore do all the hard work for you. That’s what I did. Search “recipe card dividers” with the Design Space Software to find these templates and more.

I used Cricut files: #M471CC, #M4491B, #M45B9D – to cut these dividers. I also used the writing feature to add the alphabets to these dividers.

Here is a guide to how I divided the alphabet.

Using the Stencil

Mask off any painted area of your box to protect it from the stencil paint.

I did the word “ADDRESSES” but you can do whatever you’d like.

CRAFTERS TIP // This stencil set doesn’t have multiple letters so you’ll need to stencil a few times. To keep the spacing correct, I like to use a random stencil (that of course I don’t paint) to hold the spot – that’s what I did here with the X.

The great thing about these stencils is they are self adhesive and can be washed and used over and over.

Because of the irregular surface texture of the wood box, I chose to very gently paint the stencil with a soft brush. If you pounce or press too hard paint will leak under the design.

Remove each stencil right away as you don’t want paint to dry on them and to your project.

I like to place them on top of the package they came in and clean them with a wet-wipe. Quick and simple, since I’ll need to use them again right away.

Finish the word by adding the remaining letters.

There you have it – an awesome, custom address card holder!

Add your address cards and dividers into the box.
