DIY Wedding | Christian + Jasmine

“Christian and Jasmine’s simple handmade wedding was perfect. They are crazy about each other. Because of all their DIY details, they could focus on each other and let others take on the big tasks while directing their energy and emotion to marrying each other. The first look was my favorite part of the day; I couldn’t keep my tears back as I watched them adore and admire each other. They were OVERWHELMED with excitement to see each other.” – Photo by Betsy

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

Hmmm… It’s tied between the first look, bursting forth with excitement to show my groom to be the dress for the first time, and our first dance, reveling in the beautiful moment that is now ours forever.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

Everything!!! Homemade beer by Jordan Woods, bunting made by the bridesmaids, all the table decorations were borrowed, the flowers were all done by cousin Debbi Thompson. Set up and tear down was done by family, friends, and the wedding party, and our friend Ritz Hewlett volunteered as our day of coordinator. Our friends Dietrich Schmidt, Jaleesa McCreary, and Jake Riddle formed an impromptu trio to play “Darling” by Branches and “Come Thou Fount.”

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

Not particularly, I wore Christian’s maternal grandmothers necklace, she passed a while ago, which was meaningful to him and his family. We borrowed pretty much everything we could as far as wedding decor! Christian wore a turquoise blue bow tie and pocket square.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Delegate as much as possible, many of your friends and family would love to help with wedding planning, so let them! It’s wonderful to have friends in on the process. A lot of stress can be taken off of you the day of if you make a list of things that need to happen, concerns, and directions for the wedding day or weekend. Give the list to the maid of honor, coordinator, or someone trusted who can see that those things are taken care of. If family or lots of people asking you for direction stresses you out, then have a go-to person who can direct them, or someone to hang out with the moms while you are with your bridesmaids. Spend as much time as possible with your bridesmaids, especially if they traveled a long way to be part of your wedding, your family will most likely see you at holidays and events, some of your friends you may not see for a long time after the wedding. – Jasmine, the bride
