DIY Wedding | Dillon + Brittny

“Rain can really ruin some plans, no doubt. But, if you have a good plan and a good coordinator like Alexan Events, you should be able to be relaxed and in the moment. Brittny was! I think she could handle anything in the world because she was so calm and collected and in just a great mood for what turned out to be an all night storm. Just check out Dillon’s jacket as they went through the ceremony! It was dumping. Our gear got thoroughly soaked but we just had a blast running around Deer Creek Valley Ranch and dodging the lighting. It was a seriously great wedding. Thank you two for having us be a part of it!” – Brinton Studios

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

One of my favorite wedding day memories was when my grandma sang the Lord’s Prayer during the ceremony. She used to sing this song to my siblings and I every night before we went to bed when we stayed with her and Grandpa. My grandma was such a trooper she agreed to sing later even though her voice was not the best (at 80 years young, my grandma is a perfectionist). When she got up there my grandpa joined her and held her hand throughout.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

I had amazing DIY help from my wedding planner Stacy. My ideas were grand and jumbled but she was able to sort through them and make them a reality. It was very important that family was a huge part of my wedding so we took old wedding photographs and put them sporadically throughout the reception. It was fun to hear people saying, “Which parents or grandparents do you think that is!” Another DIY touch I really enjoyed was the old books. Dillon and I love to read (or in Dillon’s case listen) so we wanted to incorporate our love of reading and learning into our theme.

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

I am sort of a non-traditonalist – did you see my flower crown instead of a veil? So with that being said I didn’t really follow the something old, new, borrowed, and blue tradition; for the most part. My mom did give me something blue during my bridal shower that was very special. It was a scarf that her mother used to wear before she passed away. My mom had given it to my aunt at some point and my Aunt had kept it all those years for my mom to give to me. I didn’t wear it the day of my wedding but it was with me when I was getting ready. Another special moment was my something new (besides the dress)! I always wear a gold cross around my neck which is pretty beat up. My dad bought me a beautiful white cross to wear on my wedding day, and it was even more special when he brought it to me while I was getting ready. It was a nice daddy daughter moment before the chaos.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Have fun and relax! Everyone kept telling me “You are SUCH a trooper through this downpour!” However, before my wedding I made a promise to be present and in the moment. If I was smiling I knew my guests would smile, and in turn I would continue smiling. I was also blessed to have a great bridal party. We had some complications getting the guests to the ceremony site, followed by the rain, but my bridesmaids and I played the game Heads Up while waiting and had a little dance party! That took my mind off the rain and before I knew it I was walking down the aisle. Life can be a lot worse then a little rain on your wedding day :) – Brittny, the bride
