I am completely obsessed with the beach – I actually had a beautiful destination beach themed wedding myself. So today I’m sharing tips on how to perfectly match your wedding theme and wedding stationary by sharing my favorite beach and nautical inspired wedding invitations from Invitations By Dawn. If you haven’t shopped them before, they offer an extremely large variety of wedding invitations, stationary and wedding day accessories. From simple seal and send invitations to stunning laser cut patterns and celebrity collections, they truly have a design to fit every theme and budget!

Loose vs. Literal

The invitations here happen to be my favorite beach or nautical invitation choices. I feel that when you are trying to match the perfect invitation with your wedding theme you have two options; loose or literal. Loose meaning you include the same colors as your event or possibly similar fonts or textures – keeping your invitations loosely based on your theme. Literal meaning your wedding theme is evidently clear within your invitation design; ie. the palm tree and seashell invitations pictured are a clear indicator that you are having a beach wedding. Neither style is better than the other, it’s just a personal choice. The invitations I’ve chosen here are perfect examples of both.

5 Tips for choosing invitations that fit your theme:

  1. Rule Number One – make a budget and stick to it! If you can only afford $350 for wedding invitations, don’t punish yourself by looking at invitations that are $1000. Don’t forget to include postage in your budget – that is a huge expense that can add up quickly!

  2. Loose or Literal. Like I talked about above… decide whether you are looking to fit your theme literally – beach = seashell invitation; or loose – nautical = classic navy blue and silver design.

  3. Think texture. Foil details can be very elegant, laser cut designs can be romantic, real glitter elements can be fun and glamorous, lace can feel rustic and letterpress can of course feel like all of the above. Is there a texture that perfectly describes your wedding theme?

  4. Color says a lot. If you are having trouble finding the perfect invitation to fit your unique wedding theme – just go with color. A perfect example of this is the navy blue invitation pictured; the silver foil design feels art deco but the navy blue color makes it nautical – without shells and anchors!

  5. Request a sample! Shopping for your wedding invitations online can be deceiving! From the color to the size and feel – these are things you really can’t tell from a computer screen. To make this very important decision you need to hold, touch, feel and see your invitations in person… so take advantage of companies offering free samples. Invitations by Dawn actually lets you choose up to 3 samples for free when you use promo code SAMPLES at checkout!
