“Soren contacted us the minute he had purchased the ring! He had heard about surprise engagement sessions with photographers and thought that it would be perfect for popping the question to his beautiful girlfriend Meghan!” – Chicks that Click

“The day of my proposal was the happiest day of my life, and honestly the biggest surprise! Soren and I have been dating for 4 years. I knew he was the one, and I really wanted to marry him. He is the most amazing guy I have ever met. He’s so romantic, sweet, funny and supportive. I love him so much! Soren would always tell me that he wanted to marry me too, but he didn’t want to get engaged until he was done school. This always made me a little sad, because I wanted to be engaged and start our married life together. But I understood where he was coming from, and I waited patiently for that day to come. To my surprise, it came sooner than I had thought!

Soren decided that he wanted to pop the question and he started planning the proposal. He asked our mutual friend, Melissa, some questions about what kind of ring I really wanted, how he should propose, etc. Melissa suggested to him the idea of a surprise proposal photo shoot, and Soren thought this would be a great idea. Melissa is a photographer with Chicks That Click, an amazing photography company in Edmonton. Soren decided that this is how it should be done.

One night Melissa asked me and Soren if we wanted to do a winter photo shoot with her. She explained that she wanted something new for her portfolio, and that she had some cool ideas for a shoot. Soren and I had modeled for Melissa before when she was first starting out in her career, so it didn’t sound too strange that she was asking us to do a photo shoot again. We agreed to do it and I was excited! I was excited for the photo shoot, and little did I know that Soren was excited for a different reason! This was all a part of his plan!

The day of the photo shoot came. Melissa and Amanda (Chicks that Click) came to our apartment, and we started looking at what outfit I should wear and discussed ideas for the shoot.  Soren and Amanda said that they should leave before me and Melissa so that they could set up the area for the photo shoot, so they headed out before us. Apparently, this was so that Soren could find the perfect location for the proposal. He even brought a snow shovel! Amanda had mentioned there being a tent, some candles, etc. so I didn’t really find it odd that they wanted to leave early to “set everything up”. Melissa and I headed out shortly afterwards.

The photo shoot location was amazing. It took place at Emily Murphy Park in Edmonton, next to the river. Amanda and Soren had a tent with pillows and a blanket, candles, a chandelier hanging from the trees…it was soo amazing and romantic. The girls are really creative! I was so excited to get started! The photo shoot was really fun, and after we were done a lot of pictures Soren mentioned that we should probably get individual pictures done. I thought “Hmm…he is really liking this modeling gig” and just laughed to myself. I agreed and thought it could be a cool idea to get out own pictures done, so I went with Melissa while Amanda and Soren went in another direction. Now, people hear this story and they say “Come on. You really didn’t know what was going on here?”  and my answer is “No!”. I honestly was NOT expecting anything!

Once my individual photo shoot with Melissa was over, we headed towards Soren and Amanda. Soren ran to greet me and grabbed my hand. He said “’Meghan! Come with me! I found the perfect place for us to get our picture taken!”  So I walked with him towards the river. As we were walking I looked down at the ground ahead of me and I saw flower petals all over the snow! My eyes followed the petals to a circle of stemmed roses! Honestly, at this point my thought was “Wow! This would be a beautiful place for someone to get engaged!” STILL not realizing that it was all for me! I can be a little oblivious to things sometimes haha! Once we were in the circle of roses, Soren grabbed me by the hands and started saying the sweetest things. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was in complete shock! So surprised and could not believe this was actually happening! I was ecstatic! I blurted some sort of answer along the lines of “YES” and he put the ring on my finger. It all dawns on me at this point that Melissa and Amanda were in on this whole thing! I look at Melissa and she is crying and wiping her eyes. I yelled “You were in on this??” and she nodded her head. Then I noticed Amanda taking pictures and I realize that this was all a part of the proposal! It was awesome! Soren grabbed a bottle of champagne out of the snow with 2 glasses and we toasted. I was still in compete shock but happier than I’ve ever been! I cannot begin to describe how much I appreciate Chicks That Click for doing this for us! It was the best day of my life, and I am so lucky to have it all captured on film! It was perfect…

Soren, Melissa and I met around 5 years ago at a restaurant that we all served at. We became fast friends and would always hang out. I knew that Melissa did photography with her sister Amanda, and one day Melissa asked me and Soren if we wanted to a photo shoot with her. We did it and the pictures turned out amazing! Melissa and Amanda are such fantastic photographers. They are the nicest girls and they are really creative and talented!  I would recommend their company to anyone! Soren and I are looking forward to them being our wedding photographers. I am so lucky to have met them and call them my friends!
