bouquet blueprint | air plant + plum hues

I am beyond excited to share this brand new feature with you today, called the ‘bouquet blueprint’! I am lucky enough to have a dear friend who just happens to be an unbelievably fabulous florist and she has agreed to regularly create and share beautiful dream bouquets here on ST!!! Not only will we be sharing the images of these beautiful buds but we will also be discussing proper care and the seasonality of specific blooms. The first drop dead gorgeous bouquet we are sharing with you is this halloween inspired number below!

BOUQUET // For a unique feel this bouquet features a large gray air plant placed off center mixed with a variety of plum flowers. By placing the air plant off center the other flowers featured are still able to be seen. The use of purple veronica brings a similar feel to the air plant tendrils that create movement and depth in this bouquet. For a finishing touch the stems are tightly covered in black satin ribbon held together with black headed pins. Lucky for us, all these gorgeous blooms are available year round!

CARE // The veronica and trachelium are best when kept in water. Leave a small amount of stems uncovered and place a small amount of water in the bottom of the vase. Prior to pictures or the ceremony, gently dry the bottom of the stems to avoid water dripping on the dressed. Calla lilies are very sturdy and do not show bruises – making them perfect for bouquets and boutonnieres. Air plants are also very hearty, when spritzed with water the gray surface will temperately turn green. For this reason it is best to spritz the bouquet with at least 1 hour prior to the ceremony. The air plant is a perfect keepsake after the wedding. It can be enjoyed for many months or years after the wedding. Proper care of the air plant after the wedding can be found in {this} article.

BOUTONNIERES // From traditional to modern, there are many options to coordinate with this bouquet. Make sure to use flowers that do not bruise easily and that do not wilt quickly. A mix of boutonnieres to match the gorgeous bouquet above are shown here – including mini calla lilies, small air plant and black chili peppers.
